“Where shall we do the engagement shoot?” Is a constant running conversation around here. As I have said many times I really prefer to do engagement shoots with each of my wedding clients before their big day. It helps both me and the clients get used to shooting together before the stress and crazy of a wedding day hits. An important part of that process is the location.
I have two rules for choosing the location, one is pick something unlike your wedding location. We want variety in life right?! Second is choose someplace special to the two of you as a couple. A favorite bar or coffee shop? A neighborhood you used to frequent when first dating? Or even a beloved park or bookstore. Something personal always adds to the intimacy of the shoot. Some times we struggle with this, but sometimes couples know immediately what they want.
Samantha & Gavin hit the nail on the head when they suggested their own backyard. Over the last few years they have spent quite a bit of time and energy making their backyard into a beautiful green oasis. From the sweet table settings to the luscious garden the whole space was awesome to work in, and really brought out their identity as a couple.
We had a great time talking bugs, plants, crazy outdoor sleeping arrangements, and all things garden. It was a great time!
Here are a few of my many favorites from our shoot together…
Samantha & Gavin thanks for being such great hosts and for being so fun to capture. I really enjoyed spending some time with the two of you and checking out your wonderful home. I am so excited to capture your wedding day! For now I would love to offer you a bit of a blog contest. If you can get 30 people to comment on this blog post I will throw in an 11×14 wall hanging on the house. So leave some love folks.

Thank you so much Em! Gavin and I had a great time hanging out with you in the backyard. It’s so fun to have a record not only of our engaged time, but of the place we’ve lived together for the past couple of years.
awesome photos! 🙂 You guys look great!
